However, as someone who has experience with family members that have died of lung cancer, I will encourage whatever means necessary to help someone avoid this disease.

Try and find out whether smoking is their addiction or they are just on starting stage because if its just a starting stage it will not be that difficult for you to help him quit smoking. However, if it has become their habit then you will have to become a stone to solve his problem and give him a healthy life. Whenever his urge for smoking occurs he may shout or sometimes abuse you but just remember to be calm and try to put his mind onn some other thing that can inters him. Always remember addiction to something almost kills your life. But if you are a good parent you must try your best effort to help him quit smoking.

For parents who find out their teens are smoking, the best bet is to make sure you're setting a good example at home. For parents who are smokers, they need to stop along with their teen. Coming together as a pair and stopping smoking at the same time will improve both the health of the smoker and the health of other people in the household.
