Zyban Side Effects
Zyban is also a quit smoking drug like Chantix it was very popular before the coming up of chantix. It comes in a pill form and is proven very effective. Zyban helps people by reducing their addiction and craving for smoking. It contains bupropian, which does all the work. This chemical is used to help people dependent on Nicotine. It works in the brain and reduces the urge for more smoking. Zyban is different from other quit smoking medicines available in the market. Before using Zyban, you must make up your mind for quit smoking. In addition, start using the medicine one week prior to your quit smoking date. The starting dose is one tablet once a day for six days, increasing on day seven to one tablet twice a day. There should be an interval of at least eight hours between doses. It is best to take your first dose when you get up in the morning and your second dose at least eight hours later. Try to avoid taking your second dose at bedtime, as difficulty sleeping (insomnia) is a common side effect of the medicine.
Like chantix, Zyban also has various side effects, which cannot be neglected. Both Zyban and Wellbutrin are brand name prescription drugs that contain the same active ingredient, which is Bupropion. Bupropion can be used both as an antidepressant, and as an aid to giving up smoking. As a smoking cessation aid under the brand name Zyban, it appears to work by reducing nicotine cravings and the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal. It also helps to prevent the unwanted weight gain, which often accompanies stopping smoking. One thing to remember when taking Zyban is that it is important to take it earlier in the day to help prevent insomnia at night and if two doses are taken one must be taken eight hours after the first so the first one should be taken on waking.
Zyban contains Bupropian and it has life taking and adverse side effects. Both Zyban and Wellbutrin should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor. This means you must not increase or decrease your dose unless your doctor tells you to; in particular, don't suddenly stop taking the medication as this can have serious side effects. If you happen to forget to take one, take it as soon as you remember again unless it is nearly time for you to take the next dose, if this is the case then just take the next dose as normal, and do not bother taking the one you forgot.
Some common side effects of Zyban are as follows you must note them and tell you doctor immediately so that your dosage can be reduced.
- Dry mouth
- Changes in taste
- Insomnia
- Headache
- Constipation
- Nausea
- Tremor
- Agitation
- Dizziness
- Increased sweating
- Weight loss
- Mania, hallucinations
Zyban treatment is generally initiated when the patient is smoking. The patient usually shows withdrawal symptoms within 2 weeks from the date of administration, but the course could continue for 7 to 12 weeks, depending on the effects. The Zyban tablet should be swallowed in entirety. Crushing or chewing it could reduce the sustained activity of the drug and increase the chances of side effects. Please do not take less or more dose than prescribed, or double the dose if you happen to miss one as taking more than prescribed to lead to risk of seizures. Do not smoke if using any nicotine products with this drug.
Of all those anti smoking aids, available Zyban works to be comparatively better. The effectiveness lies in its difference. Zyban has Bupropion that works more like an antidepressant. Bupropion is a relatively weak inhibitor of neuronal intake of dopamine, serotonin, or noreoinephrine. It works by boosting the levels of several chemical messengers in the brain. With more of these chemicals at work, you experience a reduction in nicotine withdrawal symptoms and a weakening of the urge to smoke.
Too much nicotine can cause serious side effects. You may experience moderate side effects like Abdominal pain, abnormal dreams, anxiety, constipation, diarrhea, disturbed concentration, dizziness, joint pain, increased cough, itching, nasal inflammation, nausea, nervousness, rash, sore throat which should subdue with usage. However, if they persist longer or you experience any other side effects other than listed here please visit your doctor and let him know. Also, consult your doctor if you are taking any prescribed on non-prescription drugs before you begin Zyban. Do not stop taking this medication without notifying your doctor.
Zyban does not work the same way as nicotine replacement therapies. It does not release any nicotine. Zyban works by altering brain chemistry and as a result, cigarettes become unappealing and the desire to smoke is not there anymore.
Zyban is consumed over a period of weeks before one can stop smoking. It will take time to work like all anti-depressants. If all goes well in consuming Zyban, the process of quitting smoking would be much easier.
It is crucial to keep in mind that Zyban is also a drug. It alters brain chemistry, and even researchers are not 100 percent sure of how it works, except the fact that it was effective for many people. If you wish to resort to Zyban, please consult a doctor beforehand and note that not to take it with a mixture of other drugs because the outcome may be unknown and may lead to a disaster.
