In United States, it is pronounced as chantix and in Europe and other countries it is known as champix.It is a prescription medicine used to treat smoking addictions. The drug comes in a pill form and must be taken only after a proper meal. Champix is also not suitable for aged persons as Champix might have some strong reactions on the heart and weak metabolic rates of the aged ones. It is thus better for very old persons to opt for some alternative solution to quit smoking rather than using Champix. Some patients might have certain allergic reactions towards certain medicines and they too might show signs of certain complications if they take Champix.
Pregnant women or mothers of newborn must not use Champix as it might have some ill effects on the newborn baby or on the unborn baby. During pregnancy if one takes doses of Champix, it is very likely that the effects of the medicine might affect the baby. Since Champix is quite strong and affects the neuron receptors it is better to stay away from it during pregnancy as it might affect the neuron receptors of the unborn baby along with the mother. In case of newborn babies, the effects of Champix will pass on to the babies from the mothers through breast milk and will have similar effects on the baby.

Although Champix is quite safe, some may find certain side effects associated it like nausea, headache, sleep disorder, and lack of taste. These are quite common side effects, which go away with time but if the problem persists then one must consult a physician about these issues.

However, in time the smoker went back to the old habits of smoking since this was a temporary solution to curb the old habit of smoking. Champix is the ideal drug because it takes care of the smoking habits permanently and helps the smoker to quit smoking permanently.
