Champix Precautions
Champix varenicline is a prescription only smoking cessation aid by Pfizer pharmaceuticals. Champix helps smokers quit by easing out the painful nicotine withdrawal symptoms and by reducing the pleasure a smoker derives from smoking. Champix was approved by the FDA in May 2006. In a span of few years, Champix has successfully helped thousands of smokers to quit smoking forever. Varenicline - the active ingredient in Champix is sold by the trade name of Chantix in the USA and Champix in Europe and other countries. Champix varenicline works as a nicotine receptor antagonist. Varenicline, the active ingredient in Champix, attaches itself to the nicotine receptors in the brain. By stimulating the nicotine receptors Varenicline mimics the effects of taking nicotine and thus fools the brain into thinking that it has received its dose of nicotine. Another great advantage of Champix varenicline as a smoking cessation aid is that it reduces the pleasure derived from smoking. Champix (varenicline) blocks nicotine from acting on its receptors hence even if a person smokes, he will not receive the satisfaction he used to get earlier.
Some important precautions must be taken while using champix. Champix varenicline is a prescription only drug that is proven to be a safe and effective smoking cessation aid when used with caution. Most importantly, never take Champix varenicline without consulting a doctor. Champix may be contraindicated with your medicines or medical condition. Some people may notice that their craving for lighting a cigarette returns. Some people may also feel depressed, irritable or have difficulty sleeping. Further, in case you experience any unusual behavior in yourself or anyone else taking Champix, the use of Champix should be discontinued and one should seek medical attention immediately. You should not use Champix varenicline if you are pregnant, nursing or under 18 years of age.
Varenicline should be used with caution in people who have severe kidney problems. In addition, quitting smoking with varenicline may be associated with anxiety, nervousness, tension, depression and irregular moods. In the event of any of these effects, you are advised to consult your doctor. Some users have also reported some degree of visual disruption. It is advisable for your friends and family to closely monitor changes in patients receiving Champix treatment. This drug has not been studied in children under 18 years of age, thus it is not recommended for children under 18 years of age to use this product.
Apart from this champix does have some benefits Champix varenicline is a pill, so it is easy to administer. It does not contain nicotine and is not addictive. You are advised to take it for 12 weeks, beginning one to two weeks before you plan to quit. For the first three days of varenicline therapy, you are advised to take a 0.5-milligram tablet each morning with breakfast. On the fourth day, another 0.5-milligram tablet with evening meal should then be included with your evening meal. Champix has proven more successful than other quit smoking aids. It can help control cravings and nicotine withdrawal symptoms. It also blocks nicotine receptors in the brain, which in turn reduces the pleasure factor that makes smoking so addictive. This can make it easier to stop smoking. It is sold in the United States under the name of Chantix.
